Financial Fat and Fitness

My education, career and passion is health. I work for the health department and healthy living is something I believe EVERYONE should take serious. Being healthy is part what you eat, and part how active you are. There are also other types of health, like mental, emotional and spiritual health. Well I have learned this year about Financial health. In my study of weight management I found that all those principles are the very same for controlling your financial weight.
Over weight and being in debt can hold some of the same problems. But these problems can be fixed with a little education and commitment. So if you are interested in losing some financial fat, look over some of my observations.
1. If someone wants to lose weight, they can count calories. For money, you count pennies.
2. If you really want to lose weight you exercise, for money you budget.
3. Weight loss doesn't happen over night, NEITHER does fixing your checkbook
4. Just because it looks like a lost cause doesn't mean it is, you can change at any time. For most people there is a breaking point.
5. Some get tummy tucks, some claim bankruptcy, both bad quick fixes.
6. Although both require dedication, there are rewards like a no guilt dessert, or purchase a new outfit. I celebrated by buying a new snowboard NOT ON CREDIT and 40% off!!!!
7. Taking care of your weight now, will save you problems when you are old! If you want to avoid heart attacks, or strokes you take care of what fat you eat now. Same goes for retirement. Start retirement NOW NOW NOW! That is the one thing I am super excited about. I started my retirement at the age of 25. And because I work for the state I qualify for a pension. And not only that, but once my debt is paid off I think I will start another savings in Mutual Funds. Can't have enough prevention funds!
8. Admitting you have a problem is a good first step. Once you have embraced you have a problem and would like to fix it you can create a social support. Having friends around that want to go to the gym with you, fix healthy meals with you are the same ones that want to budget with you, are excited about your debt-free life, and will save with you. Open up to them and the are a great source for help.
9. Stepping on a scale and checking your balance are both dreaded things. But being open with yourself and watch the lbs drop or your savings increase can be great things. And sometimes when you step on that scale and you ended up gaining instead of losing, or you have less money and a huge bill to pay, these are just minor set backs that should not get you distracted from your ultimate goal!
10. And MOST important thing I have learned, you just don't go on a diet, lose weight, then go back to your old habits. It takes good habits of eating and being active to maintain a healthy weight. The same goes for money. I can't just pay off debt then go back to my old spending habits. I have learned how much money is needed, and savings can save you a lot of trouble. Savings are amazing!
So if you have ever thought about losing weight, but have never thought about your income. Look again because your credit score is just as critical as cholesterol level!
If you have any more questions about financing or weight loss give me a call.

Advocacy makes change

“Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has” -Margaret Meade

I live by this as each day I show up to work and try to fight against the tobacco rates in Utah. I love advocacy and it is very much apart of me. Currently I am working for the MS society as a volunteer. This is my 5th year and I am gearing up for the MS 150 Bike Tour. Although I give freely of my time this is the first year I am trying to raise money to help. I have donated and want to see if you yourself would be interested in donating. Even small amounts help. "Never doubt that a small amount of money can change the world, because it will!" -Dre.

I am raising money through my friend Joshua Cloward because I myself cannot ride due to my awesome volunteering skills. I will however slave in the heat/cold/dirt/water to feed and take care of 2,000 riders!

To help click http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR/Bike/UTUBikeEvents?px=6081133&pg=personal&fr_id=9532

and click on "Donate to Joshua"

Who is Josh?

Good question. He's an amazing friend that has taught me a lot this last year. We play soccer together, gave snowboard lessons to inner-city kids together, and now raising money for MS together.

This is a pic of us snowboarding. Great times, long talks up the slow lifts. Josh is also a very talented cyclist so another reason I support him doing this charitible ride.

Why MS?
Well because MS isn't genetic, it is almost a mystery disease. It also effects everyone differently. For my good friend Tiffany it took site from her left eye. From my neighborhood it took Brother Boons ablity to walk. What we do know is that MS is the scare tissue on the myelin sheets protecting your nerves. When those sheets are destroy your nerves lose information like sight, thought or walking. For more information go to http://www.nationalmssociety.org/

think it over, and really $5 dollars would rock my socks. I thank you so much for reading this and please let me know if you have any questions!

I am one with Shae

I know you are all wanting to know, does dre have the new uplifter album? YES I do and it rocks pretty hard!! I love it all. Be warn it's weird but it still kicks mainstreams Aaaaaa!

However I need to show off a little bit of excitment. I was given a gift recently that took my breathe away. I am a proud new mamma to a piece of Shea Stadium. For those who do not know, that is the home of the New York Mets? What you've only heard of the Yankees? Well then you really don't follow baseball then. I became a fan 2006 when I went to visit my sister in Queens. We went to one game and it became apart of me. I never thought I would love it as much as I do. I followed my Mets for the rest of the year as they took the National League East championships and falling out of reach of the world series by those bloody Cardinals. I continued my love as I watched them the next year for the Colossal Collapse in the post season. I still love my Mets!

For my 27th Birthday all I wanted to do was see my Mets at Shea Stadium before it's demise. Lucky I had a great friend in NY to visit and great friend to go with. This was the best birthday ever. I spent a lot of money on the seats but the memories are still there. Sorry I don't have a pic of me and Mr. Met (I chickened out because I was by myself and would have to have some stranger take the picture). I made stranger friends forever, and still stay in contact with them. I watched them lose and win against the rival Phillies. Even though I'm this dorky utah girl Shea will be apart of me.

Well now to the good stuff. I was given a seat back this weekend, mounted in a glass frame. It is pretty much Amazing! Here are the pics:

It is seat 2 so i checked all my ticket stubs and I sat in seat 4 and 5 but not 2. Arg so close.
Well I hope you are excited. There is another story that goes with the chair but that won't be blogged.
I love the Mets!
And if you want some fun wiki info about Shea Stadium go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shea_Stadium

Kanks

I'm such a baby with weak ankles and totally rolled the one I was trying to heal. I swear it was good as new until last Thurs. Although the injury did get me out of a game I was totally failing at anyway, (missed a wide open shot, even the ref made fun of me!) But the problem I have most is not being able to play, but my ankle is soooo fat and ugly! And I had such cute ankles at one time. Grr
The next problem is because it's so fat it rubs on the edges of my shoe. So that's annoying. Hmmm it hurts to run on it, I live in fear that it will give out on me, I tried the hot/cold bath on it and I wanted to barf. But mostly it looks ugly.
Kanks a lot Cankles!

What is this? My Music Blog?

Well life as I know it revolves around music right now and I have to say:
WHITE RAP IS BACK BABY!!!

I recently attended the awesomely 3OH!3 concert, this was my 2nd time and fully stoked! I heard these guys during Warped Tour, (I also heard Arti Fufkin X96 DJ offended them so they refused to do an interview during Warped Tour. If this is true, it makes me love them all the more!) I caught their first concert for work but after hearing their stuff on MySpace, I was hooked! It's soo catchy but hilar-E-ous! Here is a sample:

If you can't take a joke, then get a life!

Another band from that night was Family Force Five. Techno meets Heavy Metal and some sick rap. These guys had matching plaid suits and dance moves that could be compared to none. Their music was pretty kick A. I have to give them a shout out. FULLY entertaining! You can check out their rock video "Love Addict" but I linked you to "Fever" cool song!

And he for reals wears those giant fist gloves on stage when he sings.

And when I say "white rap" is back....did it ever leave?

This one is for all the EXCITEABLE ones!

Time to get back to my ROOTS. 311, they are the best five guys I have ever had the pleasure to know! You guys have given SO much to me, that today it is a pleasure to share you with everyone! Happy 311 day all!

It was a warm September 8th 1996 when I unwrapped my present to see the Blue album staring back at me. It was exactally what I wanted thanks to my mom and the clerk at Media Play. I was mezmorized by the song Down, as my sister and I watch the music video OVER and OVER and OVER again. In fact we recorded it on VHS so we could watch it on comand (this is pre YouTube). This one album was just the begining. I memorized all the lyrics, and listen to the cd over and over. Later I purchased Transistor, and my amazing sister bought be Grassroots when she saw it at a used cd store. Grassroots took my by storm until that Christmas when the same amazing sister bought me Music. I listen to it 100 times before I did anything else.

The music was me, it ran in my bones. It took a while for the follow up, Soundsytem, to come out but that didn't stop my stalking googling them! This is where most of my current 311 knowledge comes from. Like Nick's middle name is Lofton. The album came out and so did my FIRST concert.

April 1, 2000 3pm, I could hear the sound check. Unusually cold as my sister and I was the 7th person in line. I snuck in a 35mm camera through my baggy sweatshirt and chose to take the balcony view. Through osmosis we ended up back stage but were so freaked and worried about getting kicked out (this is after the show) that we didn't even notice Chad Sexton standing right next to me. I did notice the elusive Yanni (please watch ETSD to know who I am talking about)tour manager and was so start struck. That show was amazing!

They returned shortly after, June 2, 2000 and rocked my socks. They came again in Nov but due to college and living on my own I couldn't afford it. I was practically in tears thinking of every song I missed. Later when I read that at that show the band attack Zebra Head with Silly String I vowed NEVER to miss a show again. (I've come close...)

You need to understand when I hated life, when I was fired from my job, when NOBODY understood me, 311 did, and they were there for me. No matter what condition I was in, they were there for me. When I couldn't trust anyone, I trusted them. Partly because they couldn't let me down. When I'm hurting, they healed me, this is why you see I'm such a FANATIC. They were the best gift to me. All I want to do is share it.

Since 2000 I have seen them 21....times live, including the goal to see them 3 times in a row (Vegas, SLC, Red Rocks) two 311 day shows (Memphis 06, NO 08) and 5 surrounding states. My only other goals to complete would be a halloween show, a cali show and an Omaha show. You might have heard that at 311 day 2008 I cried during the concert. It is true. I agreed with myself that the only feeling that would surpass the feelings at the show would be the birth of my first child (possibly marriage but I'm not sure). I was emotionally touched that after 2 decades of them giving their all to their fans, and the fans giving everything back, that this was the moment, the moment the two meet! So selfless, so positive so unconditional.

I have made some random 311 friends and will continue to make more. This is my legacy to give to you and may you fullfill other people's life as 311 has done for me!

Regards,

Dre

Green in ENVY

I scored a deal on new snowboard pants. Wicked awesome! Bright green super waterproof and breathability! They were $119 and 30% off. I was too scared someone else was going to buy them so I jumped to the opportunity. That's the sad part of the story....

Cashier "your total is $41.23"
Me "that's it? Oh man I am so glad I bought these today that's a steal. I thought 30% of $119 was a good deal!!! Yay yay yay"
Cashier "oh you're right! Your total is $91.85"
Me "wait what just happened? Are you serious?"
Cashier "yeah sorry I thought you got them off a different rack"
Me " " paid him in silence.
It was such a good deal untill the realization it could have been the best deal of the century. Now it's hard to be excited. I keep dwelling on honesty vs a wicked sweet price.

Moral of the story kids: it doesn't pay to know math!

PS the pic provided does NOT give these awesome pants justice!
See ya on the hill

This is how I'm feeling today...

Another reason I love Tim and Rise Against and all the words he says:

"when enough is enough that's when you know that you're halfway there"

"To the fight in the desert where progress stands still. When we've lost our will That's how we'll know This is not a test, oh no This is cardiac arrest Of a world too proud to admit our mistakes We're crashing into the ground as we all fall from grace"

"This is a chance to set things straight To bend or break the rules back into place There is no middle ground, no compromise We've drawn the line With perfect aim, we stand back and throw Glass windows break and it's all about to blow Lights go out as we pass the torch again In hope that is stays lit"

"Neutrality means that you don't really care Cuz the struggle goes on even when you're not there Blind and unaware"

"is this the point where we give up? now is this the point where we give in? now is this the point where we turn ourselves in? or is this the time to ask questions? or is this the time to seek answers? now is this the time to throw it all in?"

"this is the point where we stand up now this is the point where we take back the things that are keeping us from being free"

"To the sound of a heartbeat pounding away To the rhythm of the awful rusted machines We toss and turn but don't sleep Each breath we take makes us thieves Like causes without rebels Just talk but promise nothing else We crawl on our knees for you Under a sky no longer blue We sweat all day long for you But we sow seeds to see us through'Cause sometimes dreams just don't come true We wait to reap what we are due. To the rhythm of a time bomb ticking awayAnd the blare of the sirens combing the streets Chased down like dogs we run from Your grasp until the sun comes up"

"White needles buried in the red The engine roars and then it gives But never dies'Cause we don't live We just survive On the scraps that you throw away"

Now some of you are questioning my loyalty to 311. It must be said that 311 shaped my young impressionable life into who I am today. And for it I've seen them live over 20 times including TWO 3/11 days. So why am I not the first one to hear about their new album coming out right now and the new spring tour? Let me put it this way. 311 is my family. They are my unsung hero and will always be there for me when I need them. They know I love them and that love is eternal just like my real family. Rise Against is my new bff and all I want to do is hang out with them and cause trouble all the time.

A street so great they named it Deming Way

My name to fame! Luke found my street! I'll let my siblings and Kiara steal this pic.

Other claim to fame:

I love salmon, and apparently it is a fan of me as well!
And why stop there; http://www.cityofdeming.org/
Wikipedia says it was founded in 1881, a pallandrom AND exactally 100 years before I was born! It was also nick named the New Chicago, and Chicago is my favorite city! This city is named after Mary Ann Deming Crocker, wife of Charles Crocker, one of the big rail road guys. And this is the city that houses the Silver Spike. And I live in the city close to the GOLDEN SPIKE. Imagin the odds! It's all coming up Me!
And is DEMING, not DEMMMING. And if you are Luke; it Deminggggggggah!

Marshall vs The Comedian

Everyone says that girls are attracked to jerks. My personal friends have told me I am attracted to douche bags. Well with the excitement of the movie the Watchman coming out, I found out for myself that this is all very true.
The Comedian is Hot:
Cartoon or the guy playing him in the movie, hot. Is it the dark hair, the no need for authority, the rippling muscles, or even stoogie (you know how girls like to change a guy). This guy in the book is the most disgusting, push over, rude, inappropriate, hurtful being out there. But just looking at him...hot!

Other bad boys on the list:

This guy. I think we all know how much I hated that book, and there isn't even get a good description of this dude compared to "edward" (quotations are used to show fluctionation in tone of a 16 yr old romantic saying his name.) And I haven't seen the movie but I read an article he was in and couldn't get him out of my mind for a few days. Hot? or evil?
Lets keep the list going. I have a deep down crush on those totally punked out guys with tatoos that cover both arms. I mean gross, those guys could have a disease, but to me... Hot!
In the musical Les Miserables, Marius is the cutie with a huge heart, but I was always drawn to Enjolras. Fisty, strong, brave, frenchman. Even on stage with crappy seats....Hot!
Another good one, in the movie 300, Leonidas is pretty amazing, but I still had a draw f excitment from the politician, Theon:

This guys just has an evil look that is sexy. He is pure evil in the movie and possibly into boys, and not the warrior with a 6pack, but dre still says...HOT. Have you noticed a trend yet? All evil guys have or close to having a MUSTACHE?

Evil and the stache. But in real life are mustaches hot? Well that's just it, I find facial hair to be the number one thing that attacts me to men. Always a fan of a 3 to 5 day growth. Beard or stache, I love em both, that is to say you have enough hair to not look creepy.
And the final bad boy of them all, the man I will always love, Rhett Butler.

So brass, so rude, so honest, so rich, so extravagant, so knows how to treat a lady, and a whore. A man that so few allowed in their social circles, but so many he charmed.

So why do girls like the bad boys. I hate to be a cliche but I really can't help it. They are just sooo, so, so, something that draws me in. I went as far to come up with a list of non-hot good boys:

Ted from HIMYM. That guy is such a complainer, so whiny!
Edward Cullen. I think this guy even has a period. to mushy.
That elf dude from lord of the rings. such an albino soft spoken, archer! Come on get in the real fight!
David archuletta.
Leo Decaprio, his face looks like he's 12. But with his weight gain he looks normal.
Zac Effron, they guy dances with high kicks. not manly.
Shia Lebouf, whiner and baby face.

But putting much effort into it and the more I watch HIMYM, I really really want a Marshall. That goofy guy that isn't afraid to show how much Lilly means to him, and goes to great legnths to prove it to her. His dorky singing when he does house hold chores, his solid reasoning, hard work ethic, good friendships, and a bit old fashion. You know I want a guy that I can yell his name from the sunroof of a limo and he would find me. The guy that brags about the list of women he's slept with is called his marriage licence. The guy that writes sappy notes in for the living will. So if you do find that guy, send him my way.....and tell him to grow a mustache!

Tour de Utah with Dre as your guide

Hey check out my pics of Luke's trip to Utah. I wanted to show him how awesome Utah is, and now I got the slideshow to prove it.

http://picasaweb.google.com/andreademing/FromTheWIToTheUT#

Also a picture perfect moment for me, I landed my first cliff over 20 feet.

Do you see me and Zack at the top. That's where we dropped in. Making sure we would be in the frame. Then moments later:

It was great day of riding. A day I'm sure I'll always remember. Thanks Milly!

And shout out to Sean and Zack my riding buddies for the day. They were a blast, to keep up with, and show them a thing or two.

AFI, it's complicated

Hey-ooo

On my work trip to Moab, not the fun trip with Luke, I took these videos. They are now loaded. So Please enjoy these next few videos.....you will find a beauty of YouTube of Dre. Yes, that drive was sooo annoying alone I have a few segments where I try to comprehend WHAT afi is saying in their songs. I love the music but I am so confused on the meanings. What? what? So I attempted to figure it out.

Real Lyrics:

"Open my eyes as I submerge and I won't deny what I've been since birth.
I'll die drowned by your standards.
Breathe in the life of the summmer's death as the orange and red breathe their first breath,
so welcome as they're burning through. We all begin to burn.
Autumn's flame dance's in my eyes"

Real Lyrics:
"We all begin to burn. Autumn's flame dance's in my eyes Set alight for all we've learned. My ashes falling. My skin is singed but it heals my heart and with glowing pride I'll wear my scars."

Real Lyrics:
"I know... It's here we retreat, for where else could we go?
To great disbelief there is somewhere we belong.
In negative space supposed flaws go unseen, but our strength is shown.
In darkness together we're bringing the light. In darkness together we are forming.
The fire tomorrow is born of the night, in darkness together we ignite.
From all we've been shunned but we found a new home.
To great discontent it is greatness that we own.
In luminous eyes, reflections of fear absolute...
All hate what we've become. In darkness together we're bringing the light.
In darkness together we are forming. The fire tomorrow is born of the night, in darkness together we ignite.
Through our will we bring fear."

Real Lyrics:
"Through our bleeding, we are one.
Through the darkness breaks the light.
Through the light unending pain.
Deify the wretched ones till the darkness comes again."

I'm deaf, or dumb but hopefully you enjoyed.

Patients is NOT driving a PT Cruiser

Look at the title. Yes, patients is everything, even if it means driving anything other than a PT cruiser. Those cars are soooo awful! Mostly I'm talking the way it looks, but the drive itself isn't great. So even though I was already 2 hours behind my travel plans I gladly waited 30 mins to get a Hundya!! Deal with the spelling error, I think it's cute.

So I had to go to Moab for work, so I had to go alone and I have discovered THAT I SHOULD not TRAVEL ALONE. I get so bored so fast. Who knew I need entertainment. So I am posting some awesome photo's of my boredom!
Here I am about to enter the canyon. This canyon is right by my parents house so it's sentimental a little. But now these giant wind power gizmos are there. It's actually impressive when you get that close to them.

The sunset was "re-donk-ulous" so here is a picture of that awesomness.

While driving through town it was dark and I came across this sign. I pulled two U turns so I could get a good picture! Scared? yes I was, but scared with laughter!

I ended up staying at a bed a breakfast overnight and I was the only one there, well me and the image of this creepy cardboard sign holding a butcher knief. I mean really that sign is crazy. It was fun being in a historic house all alone that I didn't have to clean up after myself. My favorite part of the night was watching family guy I laughed so hard I heard it echo-o upstairs.

Moving on I did stop by the Arches National Park vistor center. I snagged these quick pics.

I really wanted to take these pics for all those that have not been to SouthEast Utah in a while. I forget how crazy beautiful it is there and how amazing it is. Best place to spend family trips. Thanks Ma and Pa, and Trav and Rachel that one trip before you guys got married.

Okay this photo I wanted to throw in there because I love horizons where land and sky blend so well. Something I rarelly get to see surrounded by mountains. Although I love the mountains MORE. Being in the middle of nowhere, you see some colors that you can only find in the middle of no where!
Now to some good stuff. Last time I was in price (for work) I swear I found a store called "things and stuff" a store I was interested in seeing what was inside. Things or Stuff? If I bought someone a present there would it be a thing or would it be stuff? Well I couldn't find it, but I found other stuff:
